Myths and fairy-tales are part of the story-telling tradition, but they do not define it. The strange fact – at least it seems strange to us now – is that the deepest truths available to human beings have been transmitted through stories. They are technical documents, like maps or blueprints, and long ago they were the means for passing on wisdom and knowledge to the people. Such teaching stories belong to humanity as a whole, and if tapped, it is said, their power is sufficient to unlock man’s entire potential.
